ADVOCACY
The Marin REALTORS® work on behalf of our membership to ensure an environment exists in local government that promotes home ownership and allows real estate professionals to conduct business free from onerous rules, regulations and ordinances. We work in three arenas: Policy, Politics and Public Affairs. Your association works hard on your behalf to ensure that the REALTOR® voice is heard in public affairs, working collaboratively to provide guidance on issues where we have expertise. The Marin REALTORS® work with our legal team to translate legislation and regulations into actionable guidance for our members.

The Marin REALTORS® are also partners with the California Association of REALTORS® (CAR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) with regard to state and federal legislative and political action.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS/ARBITRATION
The Marin REALTORS®' Professional Standards program is designed to help with dispute resolution and arbitrations. Disputes may involve alleged violations of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics or other issues the public may have when working with the organization's members to buy or sell a home.

The Marin REALTORS® also handles arbitrations between members. To help ensure that all REALTORS® can compete on a level playing field, the association issues citations for violating the NAR Code of Ethics. This free program for members is conducted in accordance with the policies and procedures of the National Association of REALTORS®.

Why Use a REALTOR® - Information for Consumers
All real estate licensees are not the same. Only real estate licensees who are members of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® are properly called REALTORS®. They proudly display the REALTOR® logo on the business card or other marketing and sales literature. REALTORS® are committed to treat all parties to a transaction honestly. REALTORS® subscribe to a strict code of ethics and are expected to maintain a higher level of knowledge of the process of buying and selling real estate. An independent survey reports that 84% of home buyers would use the same REALTOR® again.

Real estate transactions involve one of the biggest financial investments most people experience in their lifetime. Transactions today usually exceed $100,000. If you had a $100,000 income tax problem, would you attempt to deal with it without the help of a CPA? If you had a $100,000 legal question, would you deal with it without the help of an attorney? Considering the small upside cost and the large downside risk, it would be foolish to consider a deal in real estate without the professional assistance of a REALTOR®.
